At Exeter Dance Society we are desperate to get back to dancing with you all soon. We are working closely with the Students' Guild to ensure that our society can continue to function safely and in accordance to government guidelines. We ask you to be patient with us while we find the solutions. While our country's theatres are closed, take a look at our YouTube channel and watch the amazing performances from the past few years! If you have any queries please contact us on any of our social media and we'd be happy to help!
Stay safe and sending DanceSoc love to you all!

Not at all! We have some great beginners classes specifically designed to teach you the basics in a relaxed, fun environment! Lots of our members have either never danced before or take up new styles when joining us so it is entirely normal!
DOES IT MATTER IF I'VE NEVER DANCED BEFORE?
Yes! All our classes, from Ballet to Street are mixed and anyone and everyone is welcome!
DO BOYS ATTEND CLASSES TOO?
Yes of course you are always welcome to attend classes as a non-member!
Members have the advantage of discounted prices for classes and, of course, we would love it if you wanted to join and become a part of our amazing community!
CAN I ATTEND CLASSES AS A NON-MEMBER?
Our classes are normally one hour and scheduled in the evening so as not to clash with lectures!
Make sure you're following our Facebook page and Instagram as we post our weekly timetables there!
WHAT TIME ARE CLASSES?
We organise 'walking buses' to and from campus for our later classes so you will always have someone to walk with even if your accommodation is further out! Additionally, if you are worried about walking alone from town please message us via one of our socials and we are happy to arrange to meet before class and walk together!
I'M WORRIED ABOUT GETTING TO AND FROM EVENING CLASSES IF IT'S DARK?
All our in person classes are on campus and most are either in the Lemon Grove (near Lafrowda) or the Terrace (up the stairs in The Guild and opposite the cash-point). Over Freshers' we'll be posting videos of how to get there on our Instagram and if you're still unsure then please just pop us a message and we will be happy to help! Top tip: the Terrace is on campus and accessed via the Forum- it's NOT the one in town!
WHERE ARE CLASSES?
HOW TO GET TO CLASS?
Try out both!
Our coaches will aim the ability level of the class according to who's there. Whether you've been dancing all your life or have only just started, the routines taught each week are new to everyone so you'll never be made to feel that you're the odd one out for not knowing steps!
I DON'T KNOW WHETHER TO ATTEND THE 'BEGINNERS' OR 'ADVANCED' CLASS?
It's absolutely fine to join an 'advanced' class if you're a beginner or vice versa! I started off doing Advanced Jazz in my first year even though I had never done Jazz before because it suited my timetable better and I loved it! You can always mention to the coach that you're a beginner and they will make sure to provide alternatives to the more advanced dance moves in any of the routines!
I CAN'T MAKE THE 'BEGINNERS' CLASS - IS IT OK IF I ATTEND THE 'ADVANCED' ONE INSTEAD EVEN THOUGH I'M TECHNICALLY A BEGINNER?
Whatever you feel most comfortable in! The most important thing is that you feel happy and relaxed so it's really up to you!
Most of our dancers wear leggings/trackies/shorts and a comfy top/leotard but you do you! If you have specific shoes (e.g ballet or tap shoes) for each class then feel free to wear them but its absolutely up to you and you don't need to buy any specialist gear in order to enjoy classes!
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASSES?
The short answer is no!
Bare feet or socks are fine for most classes.
We recommend wearing trainers to Street, Commercial and Irish classes and something with a slight heel for Tap, however this isn't essential.
If you are ever unsure please just message us via our Instagram or Facebook page!
DO I NEED SPECIFIC SHOES FOR ANY CLASSES?
Yes! Rehearsals are in the same places as classes and your rehearsal timetable will be posted in the private team Facebook groups each week.
